This yarn is strong and easy to weave!

are based on pages 187 and 188 of

'Handweaver's pattern book' by Anne Dixon.

In this blog

I would like to tell about my experience and findings related to weaving and dyeing. I started to weave in Okinawa, Japan, in 2000. My first approach to weaving was connected with craftsmanship. In Belgium, even though the technical level is not so high, weaving is more considered as an art. This is a totally different approach.

In Okinawa, there is still a lively weaving and dyeing culture. Although Okinawan weavers consider themselves as craftsmen, some of them are real artists as they push their craftsmanship to a very high level.

During field work in Okinawa,

I met enthusiastic 'elderly' people who were still very young minded thanks to their wonderful weaving and dyeing occupations. Therefore, it seems to me that weaving is above all a way of life.
